This article talks about taking an off-the-shelf wireless card and configuring it GUI-style in Ubuntu:

Interesting stuff. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever get a notebook.

In the comments to it on the site:

PCLinuxOS has done this for a few years now. Nice that Ubuntu finally caught up to a real desktop ready distro. Hopefully they continue to model themselves after PCLOS...

And people say debian users are eliteist? :P

Anyway, it is cool. I doubt I will get a laptop for along time, but I will have to remember this for then.

PCLinuxOS wasn't so "desktop-ready" when I tried it a few months ago. A clean install gave me an error when I tried to add my printer via CUPS. Well, to each her own.

Yeah, that tool is great. We helped test it here on the forum to get it in the universe. Its much needed, maybe it will even enter the main one day.

Wow, that's a reaction I wasn't expecting :p . It's good to see people are finding it useful though. If any python folks want to help me internationalize it between now and Dapper, that would be great!
