I just got some new hardware, which included an 64 bit CPU, and I used to use a 32 bit CPU. I was wondering what the easiest method of upgrading ubuntu is from one to the other. I have a separate partition for /home, but I'd also like to be able to have some kind of list of all of the packages that I've installed so that it's easy for me to reinstall them.

You might want to take a look at AptOnCD:

If you want to change from 32-bit to 64-bit, then you have to reinstall Ubuntu.

How dumb! I overlooked that.
