Someone I'm introducing to Linux is having issues getting the DSL LiveCD to boot. I know this is the Ubuntu forums but this place is so helpful I thought it was a good resource to tap for ideas.

Previously she could use the LiveCD no problems, but the HD install was crashing out somewhere in the middle, usually the disk was too full or something. The disk is just over a gig and had been formatted (i.e. nothing else was on there)

To troubleshoot she tried re-installing win95, and that worked. So she want back to the LiveCD and it "Boot failed: please change disks"

Further trouble shooting shows the CDROM to be functional and the LiveCD did work one time after the win95 test, she tried another HD install and that did not complete (thats the other more important question)

Thanks

It's an old Packard Bell system, the only things I know

Intel 133 Mhz Pentium processor
NEC CDR - 273 4X CD-ROM
MAD16 soundblaster sound card
16 MB RAM upgraded to 56 MB
generic PS/2 mouse
VGA
2 G (1705 NB) Seagate IDE hard drive 3298 Cyl 16 heads 63 sectors

I'll see what else I can find. What specifically would be useful?

You can try a minimal install:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/LowMemorySystems
Otherwise; stick to DSL or Puppy.
