View Full Version : [ubuntu] Using iTunes in Ubuntu

I have an iPhone, and I just switched back from Windows to Ubuntu. After I switched, I realized that I can't use my iPhone anymore. I know there are programs like Banshee and Amarok that will sync my iPhone, but that's not my main concern. My main concern is updates from Apple for my phone. The new 2.0 firmware is going to be released soon and I need to use iTunes to sync it in order to download the new firmware.

I know there's a way to install it using WINE, but I tried it and didn't have much luck. Does anyone else know any way of doing it?

You could try windows in virtualbox. Vbox is handy for occassional usages such as that. Get the binary version and follow this (http://www.ubuntu1501.com/2007/12/installing-virtualbox-with-usb-support.html) to get usb support.

I have successfully used the above for that reason, good option.

What can't virtualbox run? Seriously. Can it (via virtual Windows) run games? Tax software?

Basically the only things Virtualbox + Windows can't do is play games, simply due to lacking 3D acceleration, it can do 2d games if you don't mind a bit of performance drop. It can run just about everything else that doesn't require direct hardware access.

Most likely anything.

And don't bump threads after 30 minutes

How do I go about installing virtualbox and Windows on top of it?
