I have been using Ubuntu for about 3 years (on and off for that time) and now I'm trying to stick with a linux distro so I started with Ubuntu. As much as I love what Ubuntu does, I needed something different so a friend of mine told me about Arch. He told me that it's a bit 'different' as nothing is just 'given' to you on default but you build it from scratch. I had to try it so I have been playing with it for about a week now and I have installed it about 3 times now on my hard drive (I keep breaking it but I learn from it ;)). Even though the installations are long, I do enjoy playing with the gnome environment and letting myself build it instead of having another distro just install everything in one install.

I hope to be around this section of the Ubuntu forums as I love the people here and I hope to ask, learn and answer questions over time.

Take care and see you around

Well done on getting it all working :)
If you didn't already know, the Arch wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org) and forums (http://bbs.archlinux.org) are great places to go for support.
You may like GNOME now, but later you'll start DE hopping, then WM hopping, and you'll have something completely different eventually. :p Many Arch users seem to like using just a window manager.

Greetings and welcome to the world of Arch. I'm glad to see another person take interest in learning Arch. As Barrucadu mentioned, the Arch Wiki and Forums are a wealth of information to get you started.

Take Care,
Dr Small

And the community is full of knowledgeable users who are very helpful.

I'm still relatively new to Arch (about 3 months, I think), but I also feel the need to welcome you! :)

(I hope you realize, you're stuck with Arch forever now. All it takes is one installation and you are hopelessly addicted)
