So, I put a DVD in my disk drive, and it tells me that it cannot read from source? Why not?

Alittle more information would be useful!!

What sytem do you have? Make? Model?
Audio and video cards / chipsets.

Did you enable the extra repositories and download the restricted extras package?

We can't help you unless you help us.

I have a Compaq Presario C500. I don't know what the insides are, just the stock stuff. What do I load?

Try posting your /etc/fstab file. Maybe this is a case of CD/DVD drive permission.

cat /etc/fstab

1. Navigate to Applications>Add/Remove

2. When the window opens, look in the top right corner and open the drop down menu.

3. Select All Available Applications

4. In the left panel, click on Other

5. Scroll down the list in the centre panel, until you get to Ubuntu Restricted Extras and put a tick in the box.

6.In the bottom right hand corner click on the Apply Changes button.

7. This will load several packages and may take some time, depending upon your Internet connection speed.

8. Re-try playing your DVD.

9. There are other video players that are better, such as VLC and SMPlayer.

Did this, it does nothing? I opened the player from Application, and looked at it, I try to load the DVD(menus) and DVD(simple) but nothing happens, no message or windows.
