To quote one of the comments on the website mentioned by the OP, it looks like Bill got bitten by his own monster.

Ouch.

You gotta worry when your CEO is pissed off at your product.

To be fair, Gates' frustration was levelled at the microsoft.com website, not Windows itself.

Funny, Bill Gates sounds like a guy I could almost like. :D

ha ha

That's hilarious.
I like how he seems to get more and more frustrated while typing the email.

No. it's windows alright:

Someone decided to trash the one part of Windows that was usable? The file system is no longer usable. The
registry is not usable. This program listing was one sane place but now it is all crapped up.

Pretty funny.
But he's supposed to criticize windows.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Vista was about to be released.

So they told me that using the download page to download something was not something they anticipated.

Hey Bill, WELCOME TO THE AVERAGE USER'S EXPERIANCE!

Ahem...sorry.

The question is would chucking balmer to the curb do anything appreciable to increase windows's useability in the future?

I'm confused...

Why would Bill Gates have to buy Moviemaker, actually call tech support like an average user, etc.?

I guess he's trying to download moviemaker, and buying some other package of softwares called Digiplus...

I decided to download (Moviemaker) and buy the Digital Plus pack ... so I went to Microsoft.com

He probably couldn't find the torrent for it. ;-)

Man, that rant reminds me of some of the rants on Ubuntu I've seen here, ending in "I'm switching to windows". So, I halfways expected Bill's e-mail to end in "I'm switching to Ubuntu!"

That isn't possible, the mail is from 2003, ubuntu first came out in 2004 :)

I wonder if he's ever tried ubuntu; personally I mean, not as some kind of competition research..
Or if he's like Ballmer who won't even buy his kids an ipod XD

Probably to test out the way "normal people" (ie not billionaires) would do it.

How authentic is this email?

Maratonda
June 25th, 2008, 08:38 PM
It comes from the archive of the trial against Microsoft in the EU for market abuse, I guess, so it be should authentic. At the end of the article, it quotes Gates saying:
As for the message, Gates smiled and said, "There's not a day that I don't send a piece of e-mail ... like that piece of e-mail. That's my job."

Can't blame Gates for every mistake with Windows. He does have a workforce that does most if not all the programming :P

Yeah, I know, that's just what it made me think of all the same.

Now Mr Gates, you know what it feels like to be a "Windows User", it's terrible isn't it? My advice would be to ask those kind people at Canonical for a brand spanking, no nonsense Ubuntu 8.04 disc, also known as Hardy Heron.

Bundled with this disc you'll find Firefox (calm down Bill, it's better than the IE crap you produce), also OpenOffice (Yes Bill, this is decidedly better than Microsoft Office - ANY version!).

Now Bill, here's a bit of advice, stick to sorting your own organisation out before before ranting and raving about open source.
