error 17: cannot mount selected partition

hi, i installed Ubuntu 8.04. first times, this OS started properly. But i did some changing with partition magic program in windows, i suppose the GRUB is broken.

GRUB is loading there is no error, i can see all of Operating System, but when I press enter on the Ubuntu 8.04 a black screen would appear:

"Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition".

I tried to fix grub with many commands or many applications but anything changed. Likely, i have to do other things. I am writing this post in Ubuntu 7.04, it is installed before Ubuntu 8.04.

Ouch.
Now potentially not only your Grub can be broken, but your partition as well... What did you do/try to do exactly ?

Have you tried using the Ubuntu live cd to repair GRUB? You might also try using GPartEd to see if it can find anything wrong with your partitions.
