Archlinux 2008.06 - "Overlord"

The 2008.06 images are out. This release introduces many changes.

- 'base' category is always installed
- Use of UUIDs for persistent device naming
- Availability of USB disk images alongside traditional ISOs
- True live Arch installation environment
- Inclusion of the beginner's guide from the wiki
- Documentation updates
- Includes the current stable kernel, 2.6.25.6

(But thanks to rolling release system. I don't have a need to reinstall, again)

There's no real point to Arch releases. Updates just 'roll' through </bad pun>

we DO have a whole subforum so you could've posted there

but yes, releases are somewhat pointless, they're just snapshots of the current repositories state

I beg to differ. This one includes space invaders!! That's a pretty major feature!

you can also install it to usb disks and fstab now records drives by UUID, that's pretty huge!

I wish the GRUB background image they had in the Live CD was included in the installation by default :)

Are you kidding? Without Arch "releases" we wouldn't have cool names like "Don't Panic" and "Overlord"! :lolflag:

P.S. - I downloaded a new install disc and the grub splash is really cool. I'll definitely be using that on all my grub screens now.

Good golly, I think I may do a reinstall just for the visual experience... ;-)

Sorry, it's 5:30 am here & I obviously just need to stop talking sheet & start talking to my sheet. :)

..and "Overlord" a declaration of awesomeness?

Arch (and therefore Archers) doesn't need to declare awesomeness, we just know it.

I thought Don't Panic was a really awesome name. Then again, it doesn't really matter. All they do is update the install iso for arch "releases".

i'd actually be more impressed with 'crafty eunuch'. you know, doing more with lesser equipment.
