I am not able to see top and bottom bars on my screen when I login into ubuntu. When I tried loggin into gnome failsafe I got the message which said something like "nautilus is not working. Kill bonobo-server-activation and then restart nautilus".

Please help !!

Have you tried entering the suggested commands in a terminal (ie to stop the the bonobo-activation-server and to restart nautilus)? What happened.

Also, see this http://ph.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?t=755409

Yesterday while running updates my laptop ran out of battery and the system got shutdown(i am not sure proper or improper)
That might be the reason. But how to bring back it to work ??
And yes I tried killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting nautilus, but nothing happened.

So finally I had to format and reinstall ubuntu ... and that has resulted in wastage of so much time in downloading same softwares and updates again :(
I guess this is the worst thing with linux .. even though you have good knowledge of linux yet it is possible that some day you dont have any solution except formatting and reinstalling :(
