Problem with StartUp-Manager

When I start StartUp-Manager, I am first asked for my root password, then there is a brief "Performing pre-configuration tasks" message, then nothing.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
FYI, I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64, if that's relevant.

Are you sure its asking for your root password and not your user password? Or did you install it under root.

Why would it ask for my user password after I've already logged in?
