Been using 8.04 since it came out and everything was fine until a week ago. I first noticed a problem when opening Rhythmbox. After opening Rhythmbox for about 1 minute the system would freeze and if I clicked on a song it would happen instantly.

When placing the curser over the system monitor it shows processor at 100% use when I check system monitor it shows a low processor and memory use but when the freezing occurs it changes to uninterrupted.

I installed Banshee and it works but after awhile it freezes. also copying large files from one drive to another and similar task that were flawless now freeze my computer.

This all happened about a day or two after some updates. I remember one of the files was hal-info (I think).

As for recent changes to CPU, I installed a P4 as an upgrade to my 2.53ghz Celeron. The P4 I bought refurb. Also I resized my dual boot HD to give Ubuntu more space.

Anyone got any ideas?
