In windows to improve the performance many tools to clean registry, defrag registry, defrag hard disk, etc
are there need to similar aspects in linux?

As far as i know...no...but I was on Windows' dark side for more than 10 years...I'm new to Linux...but I guess it doesn't need any of those things, since there's no registry on Ubuntu...although I've read of some ASCII and comand-line tweaks to boost performance...

But I'll let the pros give their opinion on this ;).

You shouldn't need to do any of those things under Ubuntu. I think in rare cases, you can get the filesystem in a state where a defrag might be beneficial but, in general it's completely unnecessary. In general, I wouldn't try to "fix" or "cleanup" anything in Ubuntu unless you are absolutely certain that you are experiencing a problem.
