I recently upgraded to the 8.04 from 7.10 on my laptop and have been experiencing problems regarding the desktop and things like sound and video. Amusingly my wireless works great which was a problem I had with all previous upgrades.
Ubuntu boots up normally but then after I log in it takes a long time to boot the desktop (more than 5 minutes) and an error message appears that says that my gnome desktop settings daemon has encountered problems and things like icons, sound and video might be affected (which they are).
I would like to fix this but I have no idea were to start. I have checked the synaptic packages for clues but all seems to be installed that should be there. I could always solve my ubuntu related problems by following threads but nobody seems to have had a similar experience. Does anyone have a clue?
