I am a novice user of linux and have edubuntu installed on a dual-boot system with Windows XP.
I upgraded to 8.04 in May and have been installing all the updates regularly. After the latest round of updates were installed, I noticed that the device manager was not coming up on the list of administrative programs, so I added that thru the "Add/Remove Applications" option.
I then discovered a Splashscreen/Startup screen editor which I downloaded and edited to get rid of older versions to shorten the list visible on startup. This was the start of my problems.
I am now unable to get-in to Edubuntu or to Windows, as the computer does not show me the usual screens and just shows a screen similar to a DOS prompt with the prompt bearing the legend (g)rub> .
Can somebody help me identify the problem and give me directions to restore the computer to a functional state (for me).
Thank you very much.
