I'm looking around for a new wireless card to buy because my old one is refusing to work in Windows (yes it's that bad) or Linux...it would be best if it works out of the box with no firmware. My budget is ~£15 and lower than £20

I bought the EDIMAX EW-7108PCG (http://www.edimax.com/en/produce_detail.php?pd_id=5&pl1_id=1&pl2_id=44). Worked out of the box with Ubuntu and cost me $16.99. Not sure about availability in the UK, though. Look for something that uses the Ralink chipset.

Is there a list of some sort that are compatible...like the one for the printers?

Have a look at one from Linux Emporium (http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk/).

You will struggle to find better than this one (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Network+Products/Wireless/Adapter+-+USB/Safecom+54Mbps+Wireless+Multimedia+?productId=2142 2) from Aria.

And it's well under your budget.

Note, delivery tends to be rather expensive from aria, about £7 if I remember correctly.

Aria is still the best place for IT kit IMO though.

I usually buy from ebuyer, (free delivery) but yes, Aria can be good too.

Just buy two or three adapters at that price to cut down on the postage per item.....

EDIT: Just checked, Aria offering Royal Mail delivery at £4-ish on that item.

I was preferably looking for a PCI card, because USB ones can sometimes go crack if the case moved suddenly...this happened twice on my sister's laptop, and she can't get a PCMCIA card or internal one because it doesn't support it. So she's stuck. We've wasted soo much money on those things...

This one on ebuyer should work out of the box :)

(Just posting here to keep a track of the best ones)

"CNet Wireless-G PCI 54 Mbps 802.11g" works right out of the box in Ubuntu/Linux Mint and cost less then a big pizza at your local pizzeria.
