View Full Version : [ubuntu] [SOLVED] Print Magazine for Ubuntu Linux

I am quite new to Ubuntu Linux. I have had some experience with DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, and Windows XP, both Home and Professional Editions.

I recently bought my wife a new computer - an Acer Extensa 5620-6419 - which came pre-loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium, so you could say I have had some experience with that OS too - all of 10 hours trying to configure it the way we like before I gave up on it completely. I had, of course, heard the "horror stories" about Windows Vista but I thought "how bad can it be?" Well, I found out!

That is the reason I installed Ubuntu Linux v.8.04 "Hardy Heron" on her computer - and we are both pleased as punch. The few questions I had were answered via web sites or here - and here they were answered quickly, accurately, and with tolerance for a "newbie's" lack of knowledge and I thank all who answered me on this site.

I have been reading PC WORLD for several years now; I formerly took PC Magazine but gave that up when it became of little use to me. Of course PC WORLD concentrates on Windows. Is there any print magazine anyone could recommend to me which concentrates on Linux, Ubuntu Linux if possible.

I am aware of many of the sources of information available on the web but I am "old-school" - I like to hold a magazine in my hand. I have been unable to find any listed on the web so far.

Does anyone know of a suitable, informative, [Ubuntu] Linux magazine?

Thank you to all who will reply.

Hi. There's Linux Format (http://www.linuxformat.co.uk/), but it seems to be rather expensive. The there's also Linux Journal (http://www.linuxjournal.com/). Or, if you don't mind reading/printing PDFs, there's Full Cirlce (http://fullcirclemagazine.org/), which focuses exclusiveley on Ubuntu and its derivatives.

The FullCicleMagazine is a good source for newbie documentation in PDF format with monthly editions.

You can suscribe to the "linux magazine" here (http://www.linux-mag.com) and they'll send it to you home. I've never buy it however, so I really don't know about the contets.

It's just that most of the things you need are on the web.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. LINUX JOURNAL looks interesting (and affordable!) and so does FULL CIRCLE MAGAZINE. I guess I would have to print that one myself. I'll investigate LINUX JOURNAL further.

Again, thanks very much.
