APC in dev environment vs. APC in live environment

I rescently discovered the joys of APC. I've only installed it on my dev server with modules:

php-pear
php-dev
apache2-dev

Now my question. If setting up APC on a live server, would I also need to install all these dev packages, or would it be better so only install the bare minimum required to run APC?
Which modules will that be? Please advise.

I hate to reply without an answer but I wanted to thank you for this post which helped me with my dev environment :)
