For me, Google Android has stolen much of OpenMoko's thunder.

What I really want, and can't seem to find on the iPhone/Android/Moko though, is a phone with a physical keyboard instead of touchscreen. The only phones with real KB's run Windows Mobile or Palm OS

Im sure someone will manufacture a phone with a keyboard with the Android platform. Theres about 30 companies involved - i'd be surprised if they all release a touch screen phone. I think Google are just using touch screen phones in their demos to be fancy

OpenMoko isn't going to come out for quite a while still. It was initially announced Q1 2007. It's been delayed dozens of time. The Neo1973 (the first phone) is already old hardware-wise. No GPRS modem, no UMA capability. The second generation openmoko phone might be nice though.

The secound one GTA02 (i think thats right) codenamed the Free runner has a lot of extras, the only down side (hardware wise) is that the battery life is bad and theres no camera

From a June 14 update http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Community_Updates

SMT is running. This means printed circuit boards are being produced daily.

Then, the circuit boards are being assembled into phones. This means the
plastic casing is being mounted
As well as other bits and pieces.

Then the phones are tested. Then they are packed and shipped.

So figure, assembly is going to start in the week of june 16, pack and ship
by june 23
Arrive and clear customs by july 1.

Hey 4th of july sale! Sorry american bias. But I'd figure early july.
