Ever since upgrading to firefox 3.0 yesterday, the ability to play flash video on my pc has ceased. I have all the plugins installed, just when i go to play something it basically locks up firefox and my cpu is stuck at 100% usage. PC is a IBM Thinkpad T30 P4 1.8ghz 1gb ram

Maybe you could remove the xpti.dat file, which should be found in your firefox profile:
~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default
