The final two seasons of Enterprise, which completely changed my expectations of Star Trek.

Red Dwarf, of course. How could I have forgotten to put that in. It really needs to go to about number 2 in the list, just behind Dr Who.

Is Red Dwarf on the Sci-Fi channel now? I haven't seen it or seen a commercial for it.

My list:
1. Doctor Who
2. Doctor Who
3. Doctor Who
4. Doctor Who
5. Doctor Who

Although, I can't wait until Sci-fi gets them late and then edits them to put commercials in....so I grab them from bit torrents.

My first show will show my age as I saw it when it first aired, the other 4 are sort of current as 5 is nowhere near enough for me as I'm a bit of a SciFi addict:)

1: Star Trek (The Original Series)
2: Stargate SG1
3: Stargate Atlantis
4: Eureka
5: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

btw, if it wasn't for Star Trek a lot of the scifi shows that followed wouldn't have happened, IMHO

Doctor Who (ALL OF THEM) The classic series was just awesome sitting in the living room with my dad and me watching Tom Baker and the Tardis fly through space and time. Great memories.
http://i30.tinypic.com/23it0gn.jpg

Battlestar Galactica. I was a fan of the original series when I was a kid. I just thought it would be so cool to be a Colonial Warrior and destroying Cylons in my Viper. The new series is so awesome. It is a grown up Battlestar that allows me to indulge in that universe again without laughing at the dated classic series
http://i30.tinypic.com/30w6vy0.jpg

FarScape. What a concept. A human is the alien in a long lost universe. The story lines and arcs were wonderful. The imagery was complete and detailed. The plots were not typical old sci-fi regurgitated, but original and new. I was FURIOUS at the series ending (if you saw it you kmnow what I mean) But mollified with the Peacekeeper Wars Movie.
http://i29.tinypic.com/2jb62h1.jpg

The big bad, kick all of Sci-Fi series there was and is. Atlantis does not hold a candle to it no matter what they try to do. The chemistry between the actors and the stories and action, made this series one of the longest running series in Sci-Fi and well worth every minute of my time.
http://i29.tinypic.com/28wo0n6.jpg

Oh Firefly, what can I say but that I lost you before I hardly knew ya. I total f'Up at Fox screwed what was due to become a classic long running and rich series. I still can watch the shows over and over and never be bored. The mixture of good characters out on the fringe of things doing questionable acts to survive in a tough verse was a change form Star Trek's future of humankind where everything was just about handed to you and we lived (by todays standards) a utopia life. Fun fun fun and sometimes compelling a wonderful little show. Serenity was great! But I am upset at a few characters leaving he show prematurely (damn you Joss!) and disappointed at having River channel Buffy to save the day.

I know I'm in the minority, but I would have expected it to see all five top posts (seasons 1-8, actually--all 8 top posts) ;-)

Whoever think that Dr Who (esspecially the newer ones) constitutes a Sci-fi needs their head screwing on.

Mine -
X-files
Voyager
Next-Gen
DS9
Enterprise

(Contains too much Trek, I know :))
And Star Trek Original series 6th, I just think that the original series can get a bit boring, so I prefer the other series

What about Films?

Aliens (thats the second Alien film BTW)
Predator 2
Alien Ressurection
Star Trek 6 (Can't remember the title, but it's the one with the Klingon peace treaty)
Star Wars 4 (or 1, depending on how you look at it, the first one they made, the one where Obi-Wan dies)

what! considering your avatar, one would not think that Red Dwarf was your first concern.

I was very disappointed to see star trek missing at the first post... just some star trek. "preferably voyager though".

Firefly was great. I thought I would be a few years to old for it (it was the same guy who did Buffy, I thought it would be more of the same), but it was really good, and funny. Perfect blend of space opera and western, how can it possibly get better than that?

Thinking about it, is Life on Mars strictly sci-fi?

EDIT: Wikipedia says yes........

"Life on Mars is a BAFTA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Academy_Television_Award) and Emmy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmy)-winning British science fiction and police drama television (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_television) series. It was first broadcast on BBC One (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_One) between January 2006 and April 2007."

I thought it was a David Bowie song? :)

The David Bowie song was a recurring theme in the show. It was full of great music from that era.

1 Children of the Stones
2 The Tomorrow People
3 Quatermass - the old b/w ones from the 60s (how has this been overlooked here? I suppose because most of you weren't alive or in the UK when it was shown)
4 Ulysses - anime with all the violence taken out for british kids
5 Tom Baker era Dr Who

Somebody mentioned Blake's 7 - I watched that as a kid and thought it was the best thing ever but it was repeated a few years back and I didn't rate it at all. If Monkey can be classed as sci-fi than that would be number 1.

I dunno if I agree with wikipedia - it was just pc cop meets the Sweeney wasn't it? Yes there might have been time travel but there might just have been a bloke in a coma dreaming it all up too and apart from the possibility of time travel it was just a 70s costume drama. A pretty entertaining one mind - especially the episode with Camberwick Green.

Cool. I never saw it (though I've heard of it). I don't think it was ever aired here.

It's a really great song, though.

3. Star Trek (Anything except Voyager (http://random.ogunderground.com/voyager.jpg), and including Enterprise)
4. Firefly
5. ... at this point I start watching anime.

I don't understand this whole BS:G thing. I used to watch it, it used to be ok, now it's just "where the hell are they going with this?".

I was thinking the same thing. To me, it was just a cop drama with a singular sci-fi element. Damn good show (even if the ending was crap) but I don't think it really constitutes the common definition of sci-fi.
