Cleared the detrius from the failed first attempt (20 hours)and tried again with the alternate CD.
checked the CD all fine
problems on the network connection option
problems on the software installation problem

i get a udevd [1344} line as it tries to boot
then i get
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/553cfead-c9ad-4880-af83-8cfacf62c10d does not exist. Dropping to a shell!
and the BusyBox initramfs

I follow instructions not knowing anything about much and I still cannot get this to load.
(Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 brand spanking new)

what am I missing/ doing wrong?

Did you do md5sum, burn at 4x or less, check CD integrity before install?

Download an iso. Do md5sum, etc. Clean the lens in your burner, just in case.

thanks for the advice but I'm on dail up.
700 MB takes a while. :-) I'd have done this before if it was an option
Did find a few people screaming about disabling the LAN which I can do and then I get to a login prompt but I didn't enter a password when installing and it wont let me in.

It seems as though there is a problem with these Toshiba laptops and no one seems to have collated the info in one place. If it is a major bug then surely this is an issue to be solved properly?

Have you any other ideas?
