View Full Version : [gnome] (Hardy:) Window positions remembered wrong between sessions.

I have just installed Hardy on my PC (that was previously
running Feisty). I run Gnome and I chose the "Normal" option
for Visual Effects.

I enabled the automatic session save feature in gnome, but
the window positions are not remembered correctly.

The windows are just gnome-terminals, but they are always
restarted approximately one line space down from where they
were in the previous session.

Eventually, by trial-and-error, it seems that (part of) the
problem lies in the "None" and "Normal" options for Visual
Effects, i.e., System->Preferences->Appearance->VisualEffects

If I choose "None", all my terminals are made small (80x25)
and placed on top of each other at the top left-hand corner
after I re-login.

If I choose "Normal", all my terminal windows re-appear at
their correct sizes, but they're misplaced -- approximately
1 line-space further down than where I placed them in the
previous session.

If I choose "Extra", everything is remembered correctly
between consecutive logins - but not after I reboot the
computer(!)

Does anyone know how to fix this? I only saw a couple of
older threads that mentioned this problem (without
solution), so obviously it doesn't affect everybody. But
where should I start looking in my local setup? Feisty was
fine. (I only have a single-monitor - BenQ-24Wi 1900x1200 -
in case that makes a difference.)

TIA.
