im getting an error message that is stopping me from using Ubuntu..

BUG: Soft Lockup- CPU#1 Stuck for 11s [MODPROBE:1283]

if any on could please help me out..

laptop(acer 5050) amd64 (i have 20 some gigs set aside for dual boot)

A few thoughts/recommendations: if you have not done so, check the md5sum of the downloaded iso, and be sure the hash matches the one found on the download site. Also, check the integrity of the burned CD (option 4? at the initial boot menu). If both of these are fine, then we proceed.
