I was wandering if it is safe to remove the 552 meg of archive files in the /var/cache/apt/archives/ dir. or does Ubuntu need them there?

as far as i know i think it does. i was wondering the samething. so i might be wrong. wait for someone else to reply to the msg.

It's safe, yes. In fact, there is a command to do this for you:



sudo apt-get clean
