If you said yes and you're a dual-booter like me then vote for the Multi-boot option idea at Dell's ideastorm (need at least 30 extra voters to get it in the main page).

If you said No, then vote anyway to get ubuntu more exposure. Also, vote up other Ubuntu related ideas (http://www.ideastorm.com).

The market for dual-booters is way bigger than the market for linux-only laptops at this time .

Thanks to multi-boot (boot-camp) Macs have been selling a lot more. People like to keep Mac or linux, but also "need" windows.

in fact ubuntu-only are not great-sellers and may end up being demoted even further (Even netbook-remix may be hidden from the public).

Ubuntu already has all the tools to make it dual-boot friendly (in fact it was designed that way: Grub, wubi, etc.)

Getting it pre-installed next to windows is our next challenge (until ubuntu gets enough exposure).

DELL is already looking into offering and massively promoting the upcoming Windows 7 in it's base line-up.

Will we be at the front page along with Windows 7, Vista or the againg XP? no, we'll stay in the same deep obscure corner forgotten at their website. :(

No not at all in answer to the poll. I would much rather run something virtualized than dual boot.

Registered and promoted ;-)

Have you seen this also:
Please make Ubuntu XPS Notebook cheaper than XPS Vista Notebook (http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10089069/Please_make_Ubuntu_XPS_Notebook_cheaper_than_XPS_V ista_Notebook)

No, I would prefer something like what the Apple Mac does with Boot Camp. Running windows inside a Linux desktop at near native speed would be great (if you need windows, I DONTT!!!)

bootcamp is not a virtual machine.

it's the same as dual-boot, except that bootcamp guides you with partitioning and driver installation in windows, since you Mac comes with MacOS.

it's the same as dual-booting. same as op

I believe it would go against the licensing agreement(s) Dell has with Microsoft.

I believe it would go against the licensing agreement(s) Dell has with Microsoft.

that has to be confirmed by them, they haven't commented on it yet.

if it's illegal then offering virtualization options (windows virtualized inside linux) would be illegal too?

this idea states otherwise:
http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/67868/Dell_Offer_OPTIONAL_Dualboot_Linux_and_Windows__on _your_new_Ubuntu_systems

and also there seems to be some vendors going for this approach.
