just updated to kernel .18 ubuntu hardy and having major stability problems

Well the other day my pc said that there was a update avalible so i just let it download and do its thing , and now when the os list comes up i do have 2 kernels , i tried the new one and after about 45 mins to 2 hours i get random hangs in 2 sec intervals like my mouse stops moving across the screen. Im currently running on the previous kernel with no problems. i was wondering if any one else was having these problems.

i have toshiba a135-s4407 1.7ghz dual core, intel 945g chipset, 2gigs ram ,100 gig sata hdd

can having to power managers affect this let me know currently i have kpowersave and gnomepower manager installed ,im running gnome
