Yes. I use either a background image or transparency effects in my Konsole. Currently, it's transparency, black shade, at about 40%.

Do you use a background image in your text editor/word processor? I use vim for all my essays as well as the usual terminal stuff. Plain black.

I use transparency. Can't live without it.

Yes, I use VIM with transparency. However, use it for config files and writing code. I use Abiword for stuff like essays.

I didn't knew about that, but I won't be using it.
I use the terminal with about 90% transparency.

My desktops background is provided by ROX, but when I open a semi-transparent aterm (fake transparency), it takes image from the X root window. This is how I set up an image for my terminal, but rarely do it.

No, backgrounds or transparency just makes the text harder to read.
