I'm still fairly new to Ubuntu and off the bat; I'm not liking the text/fonts. I like how clear it is, but I'd much rather smoother fonts like you'd see on a MAC. I'm not too picky and don't need exactly what is on the MAC, just basically looking for something near identical.

In the readme file for the fonts, it says to: "As root, open an nautilus window and type "fonts:///" in the location bar." - When I do so, I get an error saying: "Couldn't display 'fonts:///'. Nautilus cannot handle fonts: locations"

Any ideas?

You can't do that in Hardy. Place the fonts in /home/username/.fonts (you have to create the .fonts folder)
