Hello All

I recently completed a Ubuntu Hardy install on my eee PC (701) by following the instructions on the community doc's site https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EeePC/Installation.

I found that the standard install left me with very little space on my 4Gb drive. I have now uninstalled all the games (from add/remove programs) and removed evolution by using the synaptic package manager, but I still only have about 200MB free.

i would be very interested in finding out how other Ubuntu eee user's have trimmed their install.

Any tips for trimming a Ubuntu install would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi!

Give a look at these distributions... maybe one of them leaves a bit more room in your drive:

The first one is based on ubuntu, the second in PCLinuxOS. Both have full eeePC hardware support out of the box.

Cheers

Ive been monitoring the progress of Ubuntu Eee and have noticed its had a few false starts. So I think ill wait for official eee support from Ubuntu itself.

I have been happy with the stock install of Ubuntu with the customizations suggested on the eee community docs page.

Ive noticed that Ubuntu Eee has removed the following packages from the standard install.

linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-16-generic ubuntu-docs gnome-user-guide ekiga brasero sound-juicer example-content gimp* evolution*

See the change log: http://ubuntu-eee.tuxfamily.org/index.php5?title=Changelog#Ubuntu_Eee_8.04

Ill try and remove these same packages on my install and see what difference it makes.
