Hey all,
I've never run into this one before. I want to dump Vista and install Ubuntu. However, I have a ton (80GB+) of movies, MP3s, etc. that I just can't lose. Can I install UB without losing it all? I'd just as much back it all up but I don't have the means to do so.

Peace
Sean

How much space do you have left in that hard drive?

Hey thanks for the fast response! "Computer" reports the hard drive as having 28.2GB Free of 186GB.

Sorry. If you had had 250 GB free out of a 500 GB drive, we could have done it. As it is; you cannot save your data unless you back it up first.

Hey it's cool! I just had a though though: What if I use the remaining free space to install UB then somehow convert the rest of the used space after the install? Would that work?

Then shrink Vista w32ith its own partitioner and allocate space for Ubuntu. You can install Ubuntu in those 20 or 28 GB and Ubuntu comes with ntfs-3g that lets read and write to your Windows.(Dual boot in other words)
