View Full Version : [ubuntu] delete xp and files instal ubuntu

i would like to delete xp and all files off of old desktop and install ubuntu. i down loaded ubuntu but in xp i can not open it. i burned ubuntu onto cd. i dont know much about pcs i want to get off the microsoft wagon please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for your time. i got as far as burning cd without any problems. what do i do next ? xp will not open files on cd. ill check out the link sent.

Here is a link that explains the full process to switch from Windows to Ubuntu. It also explains how you can install Ubuntu next to Windows, so you have your choice of OS.

Take a look at Chapter 4 (Installing Ubuntu) and view Booting From CD - this should be your next step, although you may want to first read over what is mentioned about backing up files and whatnot.

all i wanted was a simpler opperating system for email, music ext w/out all the matianance viruses spy wear ......
i got into bois to boot from disc then choose verify disc. it was good.

when i got to instal system its said no installible system on cd rom .
i could not get back out of bois so ihad to quit instal. now i can not do anything. the computer says master boot error press any key .master boot error press any key............
ican not even get back to xp or boot menu
im ready to get another mac. thanks for help any way i thought this would be much simpler...........
