Hi,

I've updated ubuntu about 3 weeks ago, and just before I restart gnome crashed, then I could not see gdm, only a black screen with the cursor that appear and disappear but gdm do not came up... I tried updating this week (through console) as I though it was intel drivers problem or gnome but gdm does not respond

any suggestions? It's the second time it happens, and I fixed reinstalling but it seems like it's going to crash again if I reinstall so I have to fix the current installation

what happens when you try to run
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start?

same, it shows the black blinking screen like 5 or 6 times and then nothign :S

Interesting, maybe it's an X problem. Can you post the contents of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please?

bump...

I've searched about this a week ago and found problems with themes, gnome-panel and so but none of those solutions work for me... any ideas? I dont wanna reinstall hardy as I know it will broke again

ok... almost the same thing here, i didnt wanna post this but it seems to be necesary, I do not use nvdia, I hava gma x3000 and autologin disabled (also happened with autologin the last time)

I don't see any driver listed, so try adding this line to the Device section:

Actually its not working if I start gdm manually, neither adding the driver line to xorg.conf

its just it crashes when I try to start it...
