Hey, everone. I'm a newbie to the linux world and my first one was slackware. Obviously, not a newbie distro!

I had been using it for a while now and I seem pretty used to the controls on the system, but I was still looking for a more newbie friendly distro. Eventually, I found ubuntu, and I think I'll try it out. Wish me luck!

Uh... anyone have any suggestions for ubuntu?:)

Hello and welcome to Ubuntu. I think you'll find Ubuntu to be one of the friendliest of Linux distros for the noob. Also, these user forums are the best for getting help.

I'm not sure what advice you are looking for specifically. I'd just download the ISO of Breezy, burn a CD and do your install from there. If you'd like to test drive Ubuntu first, there is also a live CD available for download.

http://us.releases.ubuntu.com/releases/breezy/ is the download site.

Once you get the system installed, check out the official starter guide on the main menu at:

System > Help

Then through the "Ubuntu 5.10 Starter Guide" link.

Also available online at http://help.ubuntu.com/starterguide/C/faqguide-all.html

This document will save you a lot of time when it comes to tweaking aspects of your system.

Welcome, and good luck! If things go wrong, don't be afraid to ask for help - it's better to spend 5 minutes asking than 5 hours puzzling!

Take joy in the fact that it's not slackware ;)
