Installation made easy

I'm sure that people have already mentioned this but I think that Ubuntu would spread like wildfire if applications were much easier to install. A lot of things on the internet require some work to be done in terminal to install a program. This sounds quite pitiful but I have to use google nearly every time I want to install something. Do you think there will ever be a point where we can just download anything and then double click it from our desktop and have it install automatically?

Some distros are already heading that way with one click installs although I think it will be a while yet before the terminal is not needed for installing some packages.
