I installed ubuntu 64 bit on 120 gig HDD and when starting Ubuntu I get this error:

error 17: cannot mount selected partition

You might have a mix of SATA and IDE and Grub is trying to boot the IDE drive. Boot your Live CD and check your menu.lst
