I used to have XP onmy system a long time time ago,.,...I have a 250 GB hard and have 50 GB for c drive.....

Later i formatted only C: drive and installed Ubuntu in 15 out of 50 and the rest i left i left free for later installing XP.....I used ubuntu fine for a few days and later installed XP......During it's installation i tried to install it in the 35 gb space but it says that the the file type is not a windows partition......

After i got this problem i had changed the format of that drive to ntfs using ubuntu live cd but still the same problem persists.....Tell me what to do....I even tried formatting it with live cd using Gpartition and still the problem exists.......
Any help appreciated.....

try PartedMagic (http://partedmagic.com/) for partitioning. make the xp partition first, then the ext3, swap partition. install xp first, then ubuntu.
