Im still kind of new to ubuntu and I have no idea what this means...
But I think this is why I can't upgrade.. any ideas?

If by "new release" you mean Hardy Heron 8.04, your problem is that the repositories you list are for Gutsy Gibbon 7.10. You need to go to System>>Administration>>Software sources in the menu and in that uncheck those lines that include "gutsy" in the name. There should be several with "hardy" in the name and these should be left alone with a check mark showing.

It occurs to me that you may have done an upgrade rather than a clean install, and this could be the reason for your problem. Just so we know a bit more can you please copy here the output in terminal of
cat /etc/apt/sources.listwhich will let us know what we are dealing with.

Yes I was trying to do an upgrade. and when I went through the upgrade process of "checking for updates" this is what I got...

I unchecked the gutsy lines and recieved the same messages about
updates..

You still didn't say; are you upgrading from gutsy to hardy or from feisty to gutsy? It is very important as the only repos in your sources.list are for gutsy, and I thought from your thread title you were trying to install hardy (8.04)
