I was in the class today and the teacher was talking about how new VMware is compared to othre virtualizations such as IBM. So I was wondering, how long has the ability to virtualize an OS been available in Unix/Linux?

I remember using the beta of vmware back in 98 and it was released in 99 I believe.

I think IBM was the first to use virtualization on its mainframes back in the 60's.
