Forum Members,

I am attempting to upgrade to Kubuntu 8 and have received the following errors during installation:

~$ sudo apt-get install

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
linux-headers-2.6.20-16-generic libnspr4 linux-headers-2.6.20-16
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

I have tried the following code suggested at this thread (http://http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=825170).

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

This produced the same error as above.

The next recommendation is to remove the programs causing an error.

Can I remove and reinstall the following programs without too many hiccups?
acpid
acpi-support
powermanagement-interface
kubuntu-desktop

Is this the best method for completing the upgrade? Any advice would be much appreciated!

try

sudo /etc/init.d/acpid stop
sudo dpkg --configure acpid
sudo dpkg --configure -a

Brillant! This worked like a charm. The code completed the installation and I'm happily running 8.04.
