Gnome 2.2

I am using Hardy Heron. My system was working smoothly then its desktop manager (Gnome) hanged. I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart gdm. After that incident my system is working fine but System Menu bar and Task list bar are disappeared permanently. I rebooted gdm and even whole system dosens of time but there is no sign of cure.

Any one can guide me in this regard that how can restore those Menu Bar and Task bar.

update something? upgrade?

i have the very Same problem mine happend aftar a kernal update but b4 the update i uninstalled pidgin and totem and evolution

ok.. i did last night:

sudo apt-get upgrade

and i reboot now i have some problems starting ubuntu..
i will try to explain more detailed the error later.
