HD Light is ON for a long time after I shutdown Ubuntu 8.04

I installed 8.04 for Three days .but The linght of HD is flashing after I restart Or shutdown my pc .

Hi and I am assuming this is a laptop? The light flashing during restart should be ok but how long does it stay on after shutdown? A few seconds should be fine.

yes ,I used a dell Latitude d505 . I shutdown my laptop by hand .because waiting about 5 mins ,The light is still flashing .
