Here is a round up of some latest Linux happenings. I wish we had a newslinks section for Linux in the news. Since we don't hopefully, this will do. Hope the mods approve of this...

This would be a great monthly article candidate, especially for something like full circle magazine. I read slashdot desktoplinux.com etc. daily but being able to see something like as a monthly review would be really cool, especially for keeping track of things.

Monthly would ensure enough news, weekly might be a bit boring :P. What I'm thinking of is not so much news about products etc. but about "movements". Meh, when I think of stuff like this I usually need to sleep on it and then I wake up realising how stupid the idea was :P

Another idea would be to have a list of companies/departments/organisations switching to linux and the amount of instances that involved.

It could include a traffic light system where red = rejected, orange = considering and green = switched.

It would be a great tool to follow up on the changes you here in the news but can't really keep track of unless you mentally keep and array for these kinds of things. One could possibly analyse why groups fail to switch or what actually makes them want to switch. Community market research that could show some interesting results. - At this moment I'm gonna guess some form of this effort is already under way.

That is one of the reasons behind this. The list of those moving to Linux is growing every couple of months. 10,000 school computers here, 1000 school computers there, a entire city government moving to Linux, 23,000 more school computers over there, a entire town might move to Linux in California, New York Stock Exchange is using Linux, Russia moving to Linux, cell phones moving to Linux, embedded market to Linux.

I really wish EU officials would embark on the FOSS quest.
