How did ya get the birdies (animated?) and the mix of sun, mountain/island thing, blue sky, etc.?

Ancient thread... and though I've been reviving some fun ones in here (or maybe it's OMGPP)... I actually am pretty curious about that (my last comment with the question about the birds animated, mix of sun, island, etc.). Any ideas how to accomplish that?

They're not animated, it's just the picture I used for my skydome - the birdies don't move. It's just the ordinary Compiz cube.

Where did you get it or could you share a copy of that background image?

It's pretty neat. :D

I'm sorry, I don't have the image any more. If you jusy Google for "HD wallpaper" you'll find loads of cool free wallpapers.

Here's mine. Got the image from Wikipedia and played around with it. My desktop is bare except for the one 'runall.sh' shell script which is often used by me as part of my development of my latest project.

this is OT but i'm curious... i saw your openarena icon in that shot... i've tested it out a bit though haven't really had much luck getting onto any servers, are there any tricks to that?

plus, still OT ;) ...are there more maps, beyond the default ones with OA?

Do you mean you have had that problem with 3+ other games but not OA? Or you have also had that problem with OA? I'm curious about getting it online, it might be fun to try it that way.

Anyway, back on subject...

Here are my wallpapers/backgrounds at the moment, though they are definitely *not* any kind of "most eye-candied" desktops. Oh well... here they are...

I tried attaching the image files, though even after attempting to resize them to 50% (within this forum's reply window), they still came back at 100%. Oh well. I went ahead and uploaded them instead.

Anybody know why the top edge of the anime wallpaper gets clip-ish with the "auto-hide" panel feature? I'm not really sure why it's doing that. Maybe it's just a bug in the gnome app?

The anime one is just a screenshot from a scene in a particular series, so it's a little zig-zaggy around the outlines/edges, though it's still a neat shot. ;)

The other one, I had to resize the image... my screen resolution (1280x800) doesn't seem to be extremely popular for those wallpaper websites, total bummer. Or maybe I've just missed some good sites.

Anyway, these current backgrounds are pretty simple, though simplicity is always nice.

So, who knows who those 2 people are? :D

Surely not candied, but simple and logical ... modeled after W2K.

Okay, well nobody named them, so the 2 people in my screenshots were...
Yuki Nagato (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuki_Nagato) (from "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=849)")
Scarlett Johansson (http://www.wallpapergate.com/data/media/858/ScarlettJohansson_001.jpg) (...from the movies (http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlett_Johansson))

I'm guessing people knew it was Scarlett... but a free cookie goes to anybody who knew the other one was Nagato. :)

is there a way i can just ctrl + v my picture in here?

I don't know if ^v works but you can click on the little square picture (in the reply window) that has a yellow background and a couple gray/grey mountains in the foreground and, what I suppose is, a gray/grey sun in the background. Then link it. Though the better way is to attach the file. In your reply page, scroll down below the actual "reply window" where you type stuff, and down to "Additional Options", click on the button "Manage Attachments". It should let you "browse" to find your files and add them to the post (5 max, I think), then click "upload", after it's done (you'll see it change) scroll down that window (it's a pop-up window) and click "close this window". You'll be back in the normal reply window/page, and can click on "submit reply". :KS:KS:KS:KS:KS

Here's mine. I don't know how to get a screenshot of the cube in action but it look pretty sweet imho haha. It's basically just a cool background though ;)

EDIT Just noticed that my image is really small. It's larger than that when i open it on my computer, not sure what i have to do to get a bigger shot attached.

EDIT That's better!

Things haven't changed too much since that video, except for my custom emerald theme (in progress, still haven't done the buttons) and new desktop background:
