Blank Screen !

We have Ubuntu 7.10 running on a i686 pc with AMD Sempron Asus K8 motherboard .... we have noticed one annoying feature of ubuntu is that if the user switch icon is clicked and the login screen appears ..then if another user does not login then... after a while the screen goes blank and there is no way to recover except reboot ..This also happens when power management time out occurs ..blank screen . if this is a problem with the pc ok upgrade but is it normal for this to happen?:confused:

Pompey, I have noticed this myself on an older Dell C610 and a newer Dell (can't remember the model). The only work around I could find for the power management issue was to turn off all features for blanking the screen, hibernating, etc, etc. I also changed my screensaver to just be blank so that I can leave it idle for hours without burning pixals.

I know this isn't a solution but it was a last-ditch work around since I couldn't find an answer.
