I'm having severe problems getting on there. Connections keep on timing out before pages load. DNS resolves but pinging the IP times out 99% of the time. I've rebooted my router, flushed all my caches and swapped to alternate DNS servers, but its not having any of it.

I've also seen some people elsewhere complaining of similar behavior. So is something going horribly wrong in teh intertubes for ebay?

I'm doing some traceroutes at the moment from various remote site which report erratic response times, very high pings and very major packet loss.

Yet some people I ask still say its fine. Is this their browser cache fooling them?

Is it a UK problem? Have those pesky wire-cutting monsters been at it again but this time in the Atlantic :)?

Nope, nothing. I've already tried that.

It would appear to be a problem for routes from the UK. I've been doing traceroutes from different servers. There's a hop somewhere between central USA and the ebay datacentre which just times out and drops all packets.

Ok try using OpenDNS and see if it's your ISP's DNS.

I'm using OpenDNS anyway :D I'd already tried switching between that and my ISP's DNS.

Anyway, its back now, and everyone I asked before is slowly getting it back. My sister up North was also having issues.

Verdict: strange random outing for random people in the UK, not seeming to be specific to any ISP.

I'm in Republic of Ireland (County Cork, BT Broadband) and eBay was unavailable for me also. I trying it from approx 7:15pm to 7:40pm (2008-06-11). Missed out on an auction in which I was interested.... not sure if there is any recourse!
It is back now though.
