Hello

I built a bootable thumb drive (8 gig drive)using 8.4 Ubuntu desktop build. The drive boots up just fine, I enter username/password. Next the desktop back ground comes up, only the brown background, no tool bars, nothing. the mouse and keyboard are still working. I can not do anything at this point, just look at the brown background and move the mouse around.

Prior to the username I am able to go in under options and pick different session types. The only one that acts any different is the terminal session option, I answer the password/username and a very little terminal window opens up (the rest of the screen is the brown back ground. I guess that is good if I new what to look for to resolve the problem mentioned above.

Any thoughts?

Hi Mark
I will review the document again, but at this point I already have 8.4 on the stick and one can boot, the real problem starts after the password/username is entered. My guess is that the file that controls the look of the desktop got mangled. As I can get into a terminal session I was hoping tho correct the file issue.
