Trouble installing xubuntu 8.04

Hello,
I am only new to computers and I have a PC that meets all the requirements for xubuntu 8.04.

However when i try and install it it says 'kernel panic'
I think a kernel is the programing of the OS but as i said i am only knew to the PC world.



Please Don't laugh if i get anything wrong.

Have you checked the integrity of the Ubuntu CD by running the integrity check that is found on the initial Ubunut boot screen menu ?

Well I don't see how it can be the disc cause my friend used it AFTER it said it.
