Welcome dude! So, why'd you decide to switch from gentoo to Ubuntu anyway?

I used to love Gentoo, then dealing with portage became a hassle.

main problem i found was between upgrades.

I only upgrade after several months, so it's very insane downloading 2GB updates that need to be compiled, that means about 2-3 days compiling without stop.

Also, my gentoo was broken, gcc won't compile some packages and such things.
Another issue is package dependency. My USE's are different for each package, in some cases i have +gnome on a package and -gnome on another one, so updating my system is very difficult. I know there must be a way to deal with it, but after 5 years i'm bored.

I think it's great for some deployments, but not useful for others.

ops, also banned permanently from their forum :)

cheeky question, but why did you get banned from the forums?

Why did you choose ubuntu? I would think most former gentoo users would change to something more technical like arch or slackware.

I got banned because one day, a troll come to the forum insulting gentoo users, and I (that had a bad day), insulted him in response.

Then got banned permanently with no option to come back (and that was my first offense in several years).

Also i saw that some "famous" members had been banned and readmitted because of it, when others as me couldn't.

I choosed ubuntu because of it's philosophy and that most things worked out of the box. Also I liked upgrading with a click to the next mayor version, without breaking your computer.

I've dropped 2 gentoo servers and my desktop, and switched to ubuntu server and desktop.
