Kopete and Amsn crashes X

I have a similar problem using kopete and Amsn in Ubuntu 8.04. When I got a popup window about a new message in Kopete or if I click on some of my contacts, then X crashes and I have to login once again and restart all programs. In Amsn there is a similar problem but in Amsn X crashes when I try to change display picture. I suspect that this is a problem related to the nvidia driver, but I'm not really sure. I must have a solution to this problem, please help med out!

I use Ubuntu 8.04 and nvidia GeForce 8600GT with the proprietary driver that ubuntu suggested.
